We are the Dawoodi Bohra community of Bahrain

Bahrain is the first country in the Middle East where Dawoodi Bohras settled and set up shop in the year 1885.  They were mostly traders by profession who had emigrated from India in search of better prospects.

Today, the 800-member community has set up industries and developed trade with successful forays into diverse businesses. Many are also professionals in the fields of medicine, engineering, finance, teaching and hotel management.

In recognition of their contribution to Bahraini society, the council of the Kingdom of Bahrain has granted citizenship to around 100 community members.

Mohammed Dadabhai, a respected member of the local community has also been appointed as a member of the Shura Council by His excellency King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain.

Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community have played a very active role in setting up the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce. Batool Dadabhai currently serves as a board member in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The spirit of tolerance and the welcoming attitude of the ruling family towards the Bohra community became evident when Amir His Highness Shaikh Isa Bin Ali Al Khalifa, the 7th ruler of Bahrain  gifted a piece of land to the Bohra community in the year 1914, to build a masjid. This masjid was the first one to be built by the Dawoodi Bohra community in the Middle East region. In addition to being a locus for prayer and congregation, the masjid and adjacent community centre are also venues for community outreach and philanthropic initiatives.
